Steve Colley

Steve was the first man to transfer the incredible, bouncing, hopping skills combined with unbelievable clutch and throttle control that were prevalent in the world championship of motorcycle trials in the early nineties into the entertainment arena and to our mind he’s still the best.

Born in the Isle of Man Steve found himself being dragged along to watch his father compete in trials at an early age and almost inevitability soon found himself riding a Yamaha TY80 in the junior classes.  A telephone call from the BBC asking him to come and compete in the legendary Junior Kickstart television programme (readers of a certain age will now have a tune playing in their head, younger readers; sorry you’ll have to Google it!) and despite in his own words “riding rubbish and fluking my way into the final” he would go on to win Junior Kickstart not once but twice and so a career was born.

A regular competitor in both the world outdoor and indoor championships Steve never quite hit the top of his sport but his record of wins including 3 times British Trials Champion, 4 times winner of the Scottish Six Days Trials, 11 times winner of the Manx 2 Day Trial, 2 times winner of the Scott Trial and 3 times winner of the Paris Bercy indoor Trial speaks for itself and shows that he was quite the competitor in his day. Any thoughts of doing motocross or enduro riding after his retirement from trials were quashed by hip problems. At the relatively young age of just 42 he had his right hip replaced and that was followed by the left one being replaced just last December. Something to think about as you watch him leaping about.

Today Steve will be performing his usual array of tricks and stunts proving once again that the laws of physics are only there to be broken. Wheelies, stoppies, riding up and down vertical slopes are all part of the entertainment before he gets down to the tricks that he invented riding a bike with just one wheel and no forks!! We wouldn’t recommend you try this on the way home though.......  All this while providing his own commentary from a radio mic mounted oh his crash helmet. Steve will be appearing in the Bon Accord club tent to sign autographs and have pictures taken. Full details of signing times will be in the programme.
